How to take a good photo

Take lots and lots of bad photos.

For every good photo I get, I take a whole slew of bad photos - sometimes two slews.

Yes, it's good to know how to manage the settings on your camera. Yes, it's good to know the rules of composition. Yes, it's good to know how to use light effectively. 

All of these things are essential for becoming a good photographer, and should not be overlooked.

But, bottom line, there is simply no replacement for being out in the world capturing lots of photos - take enough bad ones, some good ones are bound to sneak through.

I have to believe this idea translates to most any creative endeavor, earnestly undertaken.    

Whatever it may be for you, do it a lot.
